An Awesome Promise and Calling
“'No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or forsake you.'” Joshua 1:5 (NASB).
God equips those He calls
I have discovered that often in the Word of God, when a servant is called, the accompanying promise or word from the Lord is directly related to the particular temperament and need of the person the Lord apprehends.
For example, although Moses has a holy encounter with the Holy God, one of the things the Lord addresses is Moses’ reluctance, objections and limitations.
No one is ever totally efficient for the fulfillment of the call placed upon their life, but they soon discover that God is their sufficiency. That is why the Holy Spirit leads Paul to declare in Philippians 1:6, “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”
Joshua is to discover that the God Who calls is the same one Who equips and enables the person He calls. Look at what God says to this man who is to follow the 40 year ministry of Moses - “No man will be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I have been with Moses, I will be with you; I will not fail you or
forsake you.”
Look at the longevity involved in Joshua’s calling. For all of his life, every person of opposition will be nullified! All Joshua’s critics, doubters and adversaries will not prevail - EVER. This promise is indicative of another Joshua - Jesus, for no matter what the opposition tried, or conceived, it would eventually be placed under the feet of the triumphant Christ, our mighty Captain and Conqueror.
His presence will always be with us
There is one more thing in this initial proclamation; and that is that the Father’s forever presence will be with Joshua, just like it was with Moses. Joshua will always know of His unfailing mercy and never, ever be alone.
Dear child of God, do we not have this same promise from the One Who loved us and gave Himself for us? Does not the Word of God say in Hebrews 13:5, “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.'”
So whatever you might be facing now or later, you will never face it alone. Not only will Jesus be with you in all you encounter, but the Holy Spirit will call others of like precious faith to uphold you and carry you to the presence of the Father.
Be blessed then, with the knowledge of these things.
Blessings and prayers,
